You did it! You got your first spray tan. But…now what? Not to worry, the aftercare of your custom spray tan is pretty straightforward.
Do not shower
…For the first 4-8 hours after your service. (Your spray tan artist will communicate exactly how long you should wait.) During this time, the DHA in your spray tan is developing. This also means no sweating, no bathing kids, no washing hair, no swimming, no doing dishes (you’re welcome for that one). Your skin must remain dry and untouched after your spray tan. My recommendation? Wear your comfy clothes and catch up on your favorite shows.
When to shower
After your processing time is up, you can shower. This first shower should just be a rinse – no soaps, shower gels, shampoos, etc. It will probably look like your tan is running off your body and down the drain; do not be alarmed. What you see is merely a cosmetic bronzer; the DHA that actually tans your skin is still working its magic. Rinse your body off until the water runs clear. You may gently rub your skin with your hands to help the bronzer come off in the shower. Carefully pat dry (don’t rub) with a dark colored towel.
Make your tan last longer
Your tan will continue to develop for 24 hours after your service. Typically, your tan will last 7 to 10 days; however, if you take care of your skin during this time, you can extend that to up to two weeks! The key to a beautiful lasting tan is moisture, moisture, moisture! We highly recommend using our exclusive body lotion and body wash. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water also helps!
Going on vacation?
Be mindful that swimming in pools and salt water can fade your tan faster. Our tips and best practices for protecting your spray tan in these conditions can help prevent fading. Important: your spray tan does not contain sunscreen or protect you from the sun. Always wear an alcohol-free sunscreen on your face and body!
